In the Dutch city of Peten, researchers at the European Joint Research Center have designed a kitchen. At first glance it seems banal. But in fact it is a complex laboratory designed to evaluate the process of connection of dozens of smart devices with each other. What will our future world be like with the transformation of our homes into smart homes What are its limitations and possibilities How will the European consumer benefit from the research conducted in it
Many questions, but the goal of which is to find the home of the future, which is the smart home.
In it, we can turn on the air conditioner, washing machine, curtains and coffee machine, not by pressing buttons, but by voice or mobile phone.
But each of these devices has its own electronic system, they cannot be operated without their definition and connection to each other. Something that makes the implementation of this dream almost impossible.
Yulia Papaioannou, an electrical engineer, is involved in conducting tests and studies in this laboratory, and describes the House of the future and the resulting data, so we need a common language that tools and humans can handle.
This engineer adds that this “The smart home will be equipped with smart gadgets, such as a smart dishwasher, a smart oven, and an electric car charger. These devices will produce data and will communicate with each other. So we will need a common language to deal with this data, and also, to improve the work of these devices in the smart home“.
