Benefits of a Business
Learn about the benefits of VOIP.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a type of technology that allows its users to make calls using the broadband Internet rather than the conventional or analog phone system. VoIP works by converting sound into digital voice communication and then transferring it through Internet broadband. So if you are using a VoIP telephone system, you are basically using the Internet to make phone calls. Using a VoIP system has several benefits for many businesses.
The cost of using a VoIP telephone is much cheaper than using a conventional phone. Making long distance phone calls are also cheaper when using a VoIP provider.
The convenience and comfort provided by a VoIP telephone system is available all over the world. Using any broadband connection, you can log in to your VoIP telephone, and you will get a dial tone. Regardless of where you are, if you have Internet access, there should not be any problems in terms of costs and connections. VoIP systems are also accessible via email or while you are traveling. Simply take your headset or IP phone, and you can contact staff or clients with a low cost call.
With a VoIP system, you can still use your conventional phone and a VoIP converter or VoIP telephone adapter. A VoIP converter looks like a USB memory stick, which you can easily plug onto any computer. A VoIP converter will sense signals that are emanating from traditional or analog phones, and such signals will be converted to digital data that can be routed over the Internet. A computer must be turned on for the service to work. A VoIP system will also allow you to acquire your own VoIP number, so no matter where you are traveling to, just as long as you have a high speed Internet connection, you are capable of receiving phone calls to your same number.
Aside from making phone calls, you can also conduct videoconferencing calling through your VoIP phone. This allows you to stay in touch with your co-workers and clients to discuss important deals, affairs, meetings, files, documents, agendas, no matter where you are. Even while you are abroad
Problems with VoIP Faxes
While MagicJack may work with traditional telephones, it does not work like a traditional telephone line. A telephone line uses analog signals and a circuit-switched network to transmit voices and other data. VoIP networks turn analog voice data into digital signals, compressing and dividing the data using codecs before transmitting it through a packet-switched network, where the information is then converted back into a voice signal on the other end of the line with another codec.
Unfortunately, this process isn’t ideal for sending faxes, which transmit data through analog signals intended to be sent through a circuit-switched network. Faxes are meant to be sent through a fast signal, and VoIP signals are often too slow to send them properly. While MagicJack’s website says faxes sent and received through their device should work fine, the company certainly doesn’t guarantee faxes will be successful.
Sending a Fax With MagicJack
Those who have tested the process of sending faxes through MagicJack say that it can work sometimes and fail sometimes, while faxes received through the device are almost always fine. You can maximize the likelihood of successfully sending a fax by employing these tips:
Only send faxes through wifi, not 3G or 4G. The 3G or 4G signals are not compatible with fax signals.
Go into the setting options for your fax and set the modem to the lowest possible speed to slow down the data transfer; this may help ensure the wifi will be fast enough to send the document.
In order to minimize the likelihood that the signal will go through properly and not be incorrectly modified, turn off the error-correction mode in your MagicJack.
It’s a good idea to test these settings by sending a fax to a friend before attempting to send an important fax. Even then, once you’ve had some success with sending faxes through MagicJack, there is always a chance the transmission will fail, so always call the recipient and ensure the fax was successful. It’s best not to assume that everything went right.
Alternatives to MagicJack Faxing
Not only is MagicJack not completely reliable when it comes to sending faxes, it also cannot send digital faxes such as PDFs or Word documents. As a result, you might be happier using online faxing services instead. A quick search online should allow you to find an online fax service, which will allow you to send faxes from your email or phone and send any digital files via fax.
